Eastern Beach Recount: Kapri

Our trip at Eastern Beach...

One normal day I came strolling to school with sunscreen and lots and lots of lunch, prepared for a big day at the beach. Just before the bell rang I started racing to school. My heart was beating. I thought I wasn’t going to make it and they would leave me behind.

Then I ran onto the bus as fast as I could. When we saw Eastern Beach through the windows everybody started screaming “Yay we're here! Now we can have a swim”. When we arrived at Eastern Beach we saw Mr Johnston. He had a little talk with us about all the safety rules because we always have to obey the safety rules.

Ms Kirkpatrick said we have to sit under the tree. While we were sitting under the tree she talked to us about kayaking. She told us there were four groups.

“Group A your leader is Lavinia, Group B your leader is Tienira, Group C your leader is Trinity and group D your leader is Leila. First up group a come up and grab a paddle”

While the other groups were kayaking we played cricket, volleyball, dodgeball and some people went swimming.

After group A finished I heard Ms Kirkpatrick “Group B hurry up and put a lifejacket on then grab a paddle. Hurry up!”.

I was bored waiting so I started walking on the sand with bare feet. It felt like I was walking on loads and loads of snails but it was actually shells. Half an hour later Ms Kirkpatrick shouted “Next group hurry up! Come on grab a lifejacket and get a paddle now!” It was my turn. I was really excited.

Ms Kirkpatrick told us when we paddle we do it like we're scooping sand but pushing a little harder. She then told us to go and grab a kayak. We had to shuffle around in the kayak to find the bottom mark where you sit. When I went to paddle I fell out. Then I went to do it again and this time I did it right. We paddled out to the bottle. After practising our new skills we had to make a line by holding each others kayaks.

Ms Kirkpatrick said “I will pick two people to walk across the kayak... The first people to walk across the kayaks are Kapri and Trinity. Trinity walk at the back and Kapri walk at the front.”

After that we played a game of tiggy in the kayaks. The next thing I noticed was that Suliasi had fallen out of his kayak and he couldn’t get back up. Mr Johnston towed him back to the beach so he was alright.

After swimming we ate lunch. When we finished eating we had to get all our bags ready to go and to pick up all of our rubbish. My friends and I ran right to the back of the bus. All the year eights sat by us and we talked and laughed all the way back to school.  We had a great time at Eastern Beach. Thank you Mr Johnston and Ms Kirkpatrick for organising our trip.
